metrosexuality and 'real' manhood

I can I pierce my ears? Can I go for a facial? Manicure?  Pedicure? Can I use cosmetic products branded for men though original meant for women like lip care? Should men help in the kitchen? Change diapers? Will any of the above things make me a lesser man? These are some of the things we the young men are unsure about when it comes to defining manhood. We no longer live in close knight societies, times which during initiation boys and girls would  be secluded, taught by the older members of the society about their roles, history, advised on moral issues and how to cope with challenges in life.

Flash forward to 2012 majority of the youth population hardly know about their culture, language and hero’s  yet know all about the likes of lady gaga & lil Wayne thanks to the internet. You realize how lost the youth are when you meet guys like me who are trying to learn their mother tongue through PDF’s and other online materials.

Back in the good old day’s honesty, courage and integrity were among the most valued virtues in the society and those who upheld them would be rewarded handsomely. In our contemporary society men and women who have accumulated riches through illegal trade, corruption, drug trafficking and even organs trade are our new hero’s and heroine’s. Young men want to become rich overnight; no one wants to take the long hard way to success.

Men of the clothe are not spared either, hypocrisy, infidelity and corruption is rampant in the places of worship.
Now that of our old men have abscond the duty of mentoring, young men are forced to wade through the treacherous path of transition from childhood-youth-adulthood blindly on their own. The future of male society is doomed, without clear guidelines on what’s the role of the man in the house and society. Who do we turn to?
